My employer has finally given me a joining date. I'll be starting work from August 31st.
Me? Working? Sounds unreal. I'm still a little kid at home. Dad still calls me குழந்தை (meaning "baby" in Tamil), and Mom still combs my hair for me.
A job. Whoa. It feels great. I'm so excited!
I've always wondered if I've got the maturity to carry myself with dignity in a professional environment. I know, I'm still childish and foolish in a lot of ways, but I'm willing to learn, and I'm more than willing to grow up.
My instincts have become... well, rusty, when it comes to writing. There have been times when I just have to open a new page and I can just type out my thoughts and feelings without a pause. I'd take about 10 minutes to rhyme on any given topic (I know, I know, the attempts are always silly).
Why didn't I write anything all these days? I had ideas for a lot of short stories. I had ideas for blog posts. I had opinions to express, things to tell the world. I just blamed my inactivity on "writers' block", this imaginary thing that's stopping me from writing. How lame could an excuse possibly get? A writers' block, indeed. One of my friends suggested that (too polite a word - he actually ordered me to) go out and spend some time with children and old people. Nice idea, that - only, I never could take my eyes off my laptop screen, and just didn't have the time to move out of my room and interact with real flesh and blood humans.
These holidays have just sped by, and all I was doing was eating and sleeping. My aunt, a sincere nurse, advised that I should go out and take a walk everyday, get some exercise and become brisk and ready to face my job.
Maybe - just maybe - I'll go to bed earlier than usual tonight and wake up earlier and go for that walk.
ONLY (lame excuse alert!) - my earphones don't work. I HATE walking alone, without company or music. I really need new earphones. Frankly I hate walking, but with suitable company, I wouldn't mind, I guess.
In other news, I joined up on "Farmville" in Facebook. A couple of my friends are already there, and looks like it's a fun game. It's more or less like Age of Empires - you know, we plow, plant, harvest, build, buy, sell, etc? That kind of game. Your friends are your neighbors and you can have transactions with them.
Elli and I -- THE (DANGEROUS? DISASTROUS? DYNAMIC? DISTURBING? DASHING? DRASTIC? DARING? DARLING?) DUO! -- made a segment for the LibriVox 4th Anniversary podcast - it was quite an interesting experience. Our segment was a sort of tribute to all the languages on the LibriVox catalog. We made a re-telling of the story of The Emperor's New Clothes - in English, Danish, French, German and Dutch. It was a fun experience, and we also made a countdown of ten things that we love about LibriVox the most.
Esther (Starlite) did an AWESOME job putting the whole thing together. People had such lovely things to say about LibriVox, and it was touching and funny and everything else. Happy Birthday, LibriVox!
You can find the fourth anniversary celebration and the podcast here.
What does Elli have to say about this? You'll find that here.
Back to square one... I'm so excited about my job. Can't wait, can't wait!
